General

This unit is basically a dryer that dries off the crushed tealeaves coming out of the CTC and Orthodox machines by means of floating them on the hot air. This process is very much suitable for the high water content products. Hot air supplied by 3 centrifugal fans through 3 heat exchangers. Heat source is the steam entering the heat exchangers; it is produced by steam boiler.

The 3 sets of fans and heat exchangers will supply the 3 sections of the FBD with different temperature and the exhaust air is by 2 units of centrifugal fans. The exhaust air will pass through the cyclones separating exhaust air from tea dust; creating a dust-free exhaust.

There is a final cooling-stage that has its own inlet and exhaust. Here, dried tea is being cooled down before discharging them to the discharging conveyor.

  • FBD dimension is: 28 ft length, 4 ft width, and 6 ft height
  • Material used :
    • parts contacted with products : made of stainless steel
    • other parts : made of mild steel
  • Drying capacity 350 kg/hr dried tea leaf
  • Drying time is between 12 and 15 minutes
  • Water content of fed fermented leaf is 50 – 55 % for Orthodox process and 60 – 70% for CTC process
  • Dried tea water content is 3.2 – 4%
  • The feeding conveyor of FBD is a 3,000 mm length, 1,000 mm width belt conveyor. The driving unit is a 1 HP electro-motor coupled to a gear box of 1: 30 reduction ratio
  • Heat source needed for this drier is around 2.25 to 3 million Btu/hr
